Barcelona chief Deco insists there's no reason to panic over their centre-forward plans.

Robert Lewandowski's contract is running down this season, but Deco says Barca management are calm about the situation.

He said on Cataluyna Radio: "We won't talk about contract renewals in October. We'll take things step by step. Robert Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in recent years, of the highest calibre.

"He's helped us a lot, scoring more than 40 goals, but we'll analyze him. Now it's time to talk about recovering injured players."

On potentially buying a replacement, Deco also said: "We shouldn't obsess over finding a '9,' we might be wrong. Maybe we can play without a '9.' This isn't the time to talk about signings. Ferran can play as a '9.'"

He then noted that PSG, the reigning European champions, "won the Champions League without a penalty area striker. Talking about a '9' is a bit misleading, even if we have some excellent players. We have a champion-level team, at the highest level, that we we need to improve. It's better to approach the transfer market more calmly."
