Salah, Liverpool’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, recently stated that his relationship with manager Arne Slot had been severed and said that the club has thrown him “under the bus” after a downturn in form.
While the rest of the squad are in Italy for the Champions League tie with Inter Milan, Salah has been left to train alone in the gym as many speculate that he will depart in the January transfer window.
Salah has experienced a sudden dip in form this season, with Slot dropping him to the bench to try and turn his side around. His comments sparked controversy and fury online as fans split between turning on him or Slot which does not help Liverpool in their search for consistency.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport, Van Basten has torn Salah apart and backed Slot’s decision to keep the Egyptian out of their latest European squad selection.
"I'd say: the brains of a cockchafer. If you react like that... He did very well last year, but this season he's not good. He's just been bad these past few months. I always find Slot honest and straightforward.
“He doesn't shy away from a fight and ultimately doesn't say anything unwise. Salah, on the other hand, really started attacking the man and reacting incorrectly."
When asked if the winger had played his last game for the English champions, Slot gave a telling answer:
"I have no clue. I cannot answer that question at this moment in time."
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports that what Salah said was a “disgrace,” adding that he thought it was a calculated move to “cause maximum damage and to strengthen his own position.”
Salah’s future is up in the air as many turn against him, the January transfer window is quickly approaching and the winger may hope he can escape as soon as possible.
