Malang Sarr has opened up about his turbulent exit from Chelsea delivering a sharp criticism of former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The French defender said he was angered by a viral 2023 press conference in which the manager appeared unaware that he was still part of the squad.

The moment came after a win over Luton Town F.C., when the coach was asked about Sarr and goalkeeper Jamie Cumming.

Pochettino’s confused response quickly spread online, leaving Sarr feeling disrespected and frustrated at what he saw as a clear sign he had been overlooked within the team.

"I felt like smashing everything up when he said that because I know what’s going on behind my back... He’s doing it on purpose. I know he knows me. It’s impossible he didn’t know me," Sarr told Kampo Podcast.

Although Pochettino, now head coach of the United States men's national soccer team, later tried to smooth things over, Sarr had little interest in reconciliation.

"Pochettino wasn’t prepared for the question, the next day or two days later he realised his mistake and picked up the phone and called me. I didn’t answer," disclosed Sarr.
