West Brom striker Berahino facing FA charge over McCarthy stamp

The Football Association may take retrospective action against West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino following his stamp on Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

In an unsavory incident during the first half of Albion's 1-0 over Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, Berahino walked up behind McCarthy before kicking out at the midfielder.

Referee Neil Swarbrick failed to spot the incident and as a result, the FA are now expected to use video evidence to take retrospective action against Berahino.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez referred to the incident as a naive act from the talented yet controversial Baggies forward.

"I actually saw it clearly, because the play was stopped and I happened to be looking straight at it... there's a good chance the ball will be out of play when you play West Brom," said the Spaniard.

"The ball was stopped and Berahino just stamps on James McCarthy. I don't know what happened. I thought the referee was in a good position and should've seen that.

"It's one of those reactions that is a naïve reaction and it should've been a red card."
