Tottenham boss Postecoglou explains Lloris, Dier status: We're not a chicken coop mate

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has spoken about the club's squad registration drama this week.

The North London slide have ultimately included both Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier in their Premier League squad for the season.

Both veterans were expected to leave in the summer, but were unable to secure moves.

Asked about the matter, he told reporters: “As I said leading into it it was a fairly fluid situation. We weren't really sure what was going to happen with Hugo. Eric was never out of the squad. He was here and I obviously had decisions to make around the 25-man squad.

“Obviously on the last day we had Reguilon moving to Manchester United then Ndombele and Sanchez out. So that's three foreigners. If one of them had stayed it would have been a different decision, which I had already stated publicly, but once we got to the end of the window we knew the numbers we had.

“Hugo and Eric were still with us so we had room to put them on the list and they're on the list. Nothing's really changed from that perspective. They were training with the first team and they're training with the first team and available now."

Then asked if Lloris was first or second choice keeper this season, Posteclogu scoffed: “You're assuming there's a pecking order mate. He's a player. He's a Tottenham player. He's training every day and he's available like everyone else.

“Nothing has changed from now to last week to the week before. The reason people play is because I believe that they're going to get us to where I want us to get to.

“The ones who are part of the squad are there because their work has got them to that position. The one's who aren't in the squad need to work hard to get it and wait for their opportunity. There's no pecking order, mate. There's no chicken coop. There's no farm animals. We're just working away."
