Sunderland defender John O'Shea feels the side did extremely well to hold Everton to a 1-1 draw yesterday.
The Black Cats lost fellow defendrs Titus Bramble and Phil Bardsley to injury by half-time and then conceded a questionable penalty early in the second half as Everton canceled out Jack Colback's first-half goal.
Despite it being a point at home after leading, O'Shea believes it was a promising performance against the odds.
"Injuries at the back are difficult to contend with, but we are experienced enough to know how to deal with it.
"It takes a few minutes to get used to new positions, but once everyone's talking across the back four, we can cope.
"To lose Titus and Bardo was difficult, but we managed to get through. We can take confidence from the result.""We limited Everton to very few chances," said O'Shea. "And when you see the penalty which went against us, it's very disappointing.
