A double from Callum Wilson made the difference against Marco Silva's side.

Speaking after the game, Howe said: "I was really, really pleased. You don't want to go too long without winning at home. This league is hard enough but you are reliant on your home form.

"We knew the importance of the game and it's a great win against a good team.

"I think this season we are only going to get stronger when we have more players back from injury. The group is really strong when we have a full compliment of players, we have options in every position.

"This win gives the strength of the group real confidence."

Callum Wilson stole the show with a barnstorming double at Vitality Stadium, which was sandwiched in between goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ryan Fraser.

"It's a disappointing result, of course. We didn't deserve more after the mistakes," admitted Silva. "We conceded the three goals so easy. I don't want to take away the credit from Bournemouth but it was our fault. We had good offensive moments in the game but the way we conceded the goals made a big impact.

"We reacted well to their first goal. We started the second half doing what we planned, creating dangerous chances around their box but then they scored from one mistake from a set piece and were clinical.

"We have to become again that solid team that we were towards the end of last season and at the start of the season when we had 10 clean sheets in 13 games. We created chances and should have scored more but when you defend like that you are not going to win the game.

"It was a lack of focus. We addressed these type of moments last season. We were solid at the start of this season and we need to be more solid again. It's something we must address as fast as we can. We've been a solid team before and I don't see any reasons why we can't be again.

"Last season we improved our away form from the season before but we want to do better than that. We created problems for them, created spaces but conceding goals like that makes you lose confidence."

The Sun says he would be willing to go back if the takeover by an American consortium is completed.

Allardyce, 64, thinks he has one more top project in him and has a backroom staff ready to come along.

The imminent takeover will see MSD Partners pump in cash.

Current manager Jack Ross will stay in charge to guide the promotion bid and is guaranteed an extra year if he succeeds.

But the ambitious owners- in-waiting want to get back to the Premier League as soon as possible.

And that could open the door to former Bolton and West Ham chief Allardyce.

Silva's side return from the international break to face Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon at the Vitality Stadium.

"Our last away game against Bournemouth was an entertaining one, even if I didn't like the end," Silva said. "I hope it will be entertaining again, but with a good result and if possible a clean sheet for us.

"They signed one or two players and they have strengthened the team again. If you look at every season they are always keeping the best players and they are always strengthening their team.

"Eddie's doing a very, very good job there. It's clear the way they want to play, even if in some moments they change the formation but it's clear what they try to do.

"With high quality players in their attack, a strong midfield, good pace in their team and really strong at offensive set pieces, they are in a better condition than last season."

The forward made a last-minute move to Goodison Park last month, leaving Arsenal - where he has played since the age of eight - to join Everton for a 35m fee.

He told Sky Sports: "It's so far, so good, I feel like I've got a new home and I'm really comfortable here.

"I got a few phone calls [about the deal] and spoke to my agent - it took about a day of talking to the manager and talking to Marcel Brands. It wasn't really hard and I got convinced.

"I was very comfortable [at Arsenal] and I was on holiday so I didn't think about any move. I got the call and thought about if this would be a better chance for me to improve myself as a player. I thought that this was a big opportunity and I shouldn't turn it down. I've got no regrets about the decision.

"The ambition that Marco Silva has also persuaded me to come - the drive, what he wants to achieve and the way he saw me in his plans, I feel like I'm able to help him do that. Even in training, he's always demanding, always trying to get the best out of us and it's good for the team."

The left-back is now one of the most experienced players in an Everton squad which is only getting younger under the transfer strategy of Marco Silva and Marcel Brands.

However, the role of a mentor is not one the 34-year-old tends to think about too much.

"When it comes to young players, it's not something we really think about, the mentoring thing," Baines told the St Domingo shirtzine.

"But Tom [Davies] is very cool, I love Tom and his personality. He's his own man. He's strong-minded as well, much more comfortable within himself than I was at that age.

"Tom doesn't need me to progress. It's like all of the young lads coming through, you have to let it happen naturally. There will be times when you will give young players a little boost whether it's on the training ground or the pitch.

"It's a funny one, I came through with the opposite. It was a lot of tough love."

Silva has dismissed Graeme Souness' comments after the Sky Sports' pundit speculated that Juventus sold Kean this summer because his off-field activities are not the best".

But the manager told the Liverpool Echo: I heard something.

My people told me and our media people also but I don't want my players to see, read or pay attention to this situation.

I don't lose my focus with this situation. Ok, some managers, some people talking on TV and on radio as well, it is their opinion and we have to respect opinions, don't lose focus, keep doing your work and keep believing in your players.

For me it is not an important thing and I don't want our players to lose their focus and lose energy with this situation because it is not something you can control."

But he hopes he faces Bournemouth.

Silva said: He had a problem after the Wolves match.

Unfortunately for us he didn't work all week after the Wolves match because it was an important moment for him.

After the injury he had, then playing 70 minutes against Lincoln and after 90 minutes against Wolves Wednesday, Sunday it was tough for him because he didn't have many training sessions before and so it was important if he could keep doing the same during the international break.

Unfortunately for us and for him he didn't do that because he had a small problem in his Achilles but he started to work with us this week, did so again yesterday and he is fit in this moment."

The Under-21 international impressed in England's 2-0 win over the Kosovans in Hull on Monday.

Davies has struggled to get game time this season but Silva will not let him lose faith.

"The Tom I saw last season - playing in our starting XI, being captain - I have to tell you I see the same boy now," said Silva.

"Yes, he is sad. That is normal. He is not playing. It is up to me to work him hard, to keep him in the right way. I have told him he needs enough patience."

Keane was responsible for the mistake that led to Kosovo's opening goal in the first minute of the Euro 2020 qualifier, which England won 5-3.

"I spoke to him when I saw him," said Silva. "Normally, I speak to all the international players, even if you have a big number. I like to do that. With some of them, I like to do it straight before the first session. It's what I did with Michael.

"The first thing I said to him was: 'Congratulations...' England won two games, this is true, and the coach had the confidence to put him in the starting XI also.

"It wasn't just one game. The second match was a tough night - but not just for Michael. I think for the backline, it was a tough one.

"It is so easy. It is a moment for him to learn. In the moments, in the football moments, you have the good things that you take and you try to improve.

"When something happens that is not so good, you have to learn from that. I'm 100 per cent sure that I didn't need to speak to Michael to tell him this."
