Tottenham could be set to lose out on the signing of Wolfsburg centre-back Micky van de Ven this summer.
The London club were hoping to secure the Dutchman for new boss Ange Postecoglou.
With Liverpool also interested in his signature, Wolfsburg are determined to get a big fee.
Spurs will not match that asking price, according to the Wolfsburger Allgemeine, which has been set at £40 million.
The London club are nowhere close to that figure, which means negotiations could be at a standstill.
Spurs may have to move on to a cheaper option if they are unable to raise funds to secure Van de Ven.
