Real Betis midfielder Isco has recalled breaking a commitment to Manuel Pellegrini about moving to Manchester City.

His departure from Málaga coincided with that of his coach, Pellegrini, who was leaving for City. The then youngster had promised his coach that they would go to England together.

He said on Universo Valdano, "Before we went on vacation I told him that I was going with him."

However, after the European Championship that summer, everything changed.

"Real Madrid appeared. That's when I had to decide. I couldn't say no to them, and they hadn't won the Champions League for many years and I had the feeling that it was going to happen soon."

Isco has been reunited with Pellegrini this season at Real Betis.
