Newcastle United made a move for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris this week.

L'Equipe says Newcastle tried to sign Lloris during the last day of the transfer window.

Tottenham were even ready to release the goalkeeper without a transfer fee, but he himself refused.

Lloris wants to be the first-choice goalkeeper at his next club. While at Newcastle, he would have arrived as cover for Nick Pope.

A move to Turkey or Saudi Arabia is now an option for the French veteran.
