Motherwell boss Mark McGhee is moving for Celtic defender Adam Virgo.

McGhee sold the centre-half to Celtic while in charge of Brighton and said: "I won't deny that I'll speak to Gordon about that.

"I'm a big, big Adam Virgo fan and in spite of what may have happened to him here, I know that somewhere in there is a really good player.

"I think it would benefit us if he came here this season. However, I don't know what Gordon's plans are for him and I don't know what the boy's plans are because I haven't spoken to him.

"Financially, he's in a different league from us so Celtic would need to help us out there and I don't know if they're in a position to do that. Adam has another two years left on his contract at Parkhead."
