Arzani is nearing a return to first-team football with Celtic.

The Aussie winger is on a two-year loan at Parkhead but hasn't played since October after suffering a serious knee injury on his debut.

Bhoys boss Neil Lennon said the 20-year-old will feature in a reserves game this week.

Daniel's nearly fit," he said. He will get 40 minutes in that and needs match fitness before coming into the squad."

The winger, on loan from Southampton, set up the winner in his first start for the Scottish giants.

He said: "It was good to get the chance to play. I am proud of getting the win.

"It was a good first five minutes and I almost scored but in the end I was happy to assist James in front of the goal and win the game.

"It was a tough game and the pitch wasn't the best and a bit dry but we came here for three points and that's what we got."

He added: "They have been taking care of me since day one.

"In time I will get more time to know them and on the pitch know each other and how they want to play and I want to play and hopefully that will get better in the future.

"I am proud to get the debut and the three points is nice and now it's Rennes on Thursday and we go again."

Bruce will come up against the Dutch centre-back when his Newcastle side face Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Virgil van Dijk: wow, what a player," he said.

We all know how good Liverpool are up front but signing him and the keeper [Alisson] gave Liverpool the backbone they needed, just took them to the next level.

I could have taken him [Van Dijk] to Hull. I had dinner with Kenny Dalglish and the owner of Celtic, Dermot Desmond, in Barbados I'm name-dropping now and Desmond was waxing lyrical about the best players he's had.

"He was saying: '[Henrik] Larsson is definitely, definitely the best I've seen play for Celtic in my ownership but what I can't understand is nobody has gone for Van Dijk.'

I thought: 'That's interesting, he's seen a lot of football over the last 12 years,' so I tried to get him before he went to Southampton but I had no chance."

The Manchester Evening News says the 18-year-old secured a permanent move to the SPL champions on Monday after spending half of his life with the Blues in their academy.

Frimpong impressed last season as the Under-18s made it to the FA Youth Cup final and the Under-21s reached the quarter-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy but interest from Neil Lennon proved too much for him to turn down.

Celtic have paid an initial 350,000 for Frimpong and there are also up to 650,000 in potential payments which would take the total sum up to 1m. City will also receive 30 per cent of any fee should Celtic sell the youngster in future, but there is no buyback clause in the deal.

The 19-year-old is versatile and can play anywhere across the back line.

While he was highly rated at youth level, he never made the step up to United's senior team.

He will now sign for Celtic in a permanent transfer, with the deal closing before the European transfer window shut on September 2.

O'Connor has been at Manchester United since 2016 and played for their under-23 team as recently as last week.

Many were surprised he was released permanently, but it is possible United included a buy-back clause in the deal.

O'Connor joins on a four-year deal.

He told Celtic's website: It feels surreal at the moment but I'm just looking forward to getting the international break over with and then starting with Celtic.

I found out last weekend about Celtic's interest, and it went from there. Today was a bit hectic but I'm just glad to get it through before the window shuts.

The Irish squad met up this morning and I spoke to the manager, Stephen Kenny, and he was fine about me coming here today. I'll meet up them again tomorrow for training.

I'm a versatile player. I can play anywhere across the back four or midfield if needed. I'd say that I'm a wholehearted defender. I love defending and tackling, but I like to get forward as well. First and foremost, though, I am a defender."

The 18-year-old defender, who can play left back and left midfield, spent the past three seasons with the City youth setup.

He was a part of the team that reached the quarters of the EFL Trophy last term.

But he now has a chance to star in Scotland after signing a four-year deal with the reigning champions.

"It feels amazing to have joined Celtic. What a massive club to be [a] part of," he told the official Celtic website after completing his move.

"I'm just lucky to have been picked and I'm grateful for everything. I'm just happy to be here and I just want to get on the pitch and show the fans everything that I've got.

"I'm looking forward to training with my new team-mates and getting to know them. They've got more experience than me, so I'm hoping they'll be able to help me as a player.

"I started going on YouTube to watch Celtic, and when they were on TV, I watched the games. I watched Sunday's match against Rangers. What a game! Celtic were brilliant and deserved to win.

"Now I can't wait to play at Celtic Park in front of the fans. Hopefully when I get on the pitch and do something good, I'll hear the noise for me."

Tottenham are open to considering loan offers for the out-of-favour midfielder if no permanent move can be agreed, says the Daily Record.

Wanyama had been linked with a 13m transfer to Club Brugge but sources have suggested the deal is unlikely to go through.

Now that has opened the door for Celtic boss Neil Lennon to swoop for a reunion with the Kenyan international.

Lennon worked with Wanyama in his previous spell with the Hoops and had reportedly made the midfielder a priority in the window.
