Man City ace De Bruyne: Reaching Champions League final four always our target

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne insists they were always in control after reaching the Champions League semifinals.

City drew 1-1 at Bayern Munich on Wednesday night after Erling Haaland's opener was canceled out by Joshua Kimmich's penalty for Bayern after a late handball judgment against Manuel Akanji. City reach the final four 4-1 on aggregate.

“I think going into the semis is what we wanted to do," De Bruyne said.

“I've played here before and in the beginning you know they're going to come aggressive and they're going to try and put you under pressure.

“But, I think we dealt well with the pressure. We defended when there was a tough moment and at certain times we created what we needed to create.

“In the difficult moments and I think it was a very smart game from us.

“You need to prepare everything and that's what we did. We go again on Saturday."

He added: “What happened last year, happened. I think we played really well in the two games and in the last five minutes [they] changed the course of not qualifying.

“You have to take it on the chin and move on. It happened and it doesn't mean we didn't play well for the majority of the two games but football is about details and it happens and you move on.

“If you play Champions League the quality is class, but we need to prepare ourselves to be ready for that, but we still have a couple of games in between."
