Iceland coach Hareide names Sigurdsson in his squad: He loves his country

Iceland coach Age Hareide has named Lyngby midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson in his squad.

The former Everton and Swansea City is back with the national team after a three-year absence. Sigurdsson was forced out of football in England over claims of sexual abuse, which he was cleared of earlier this year.

"Gylfi has done so much in his career and he has played many international matches for Iceland," said Hareide.

"I know him really well and he knows what is important in football and that is why he is a fantastic football player.

"He deserves to be part of the national team, as he also wants it so much.

"He told me that he has been waiting for this moment for two years. He loves football and his country, and it is important that he shows it to the young players."
