FIGC president Gravina announces suspension for Newcastle midfielder Tonali

Gabriele Gravina, the president of the Italian Football Federation, has announced Sandro Tonali has been suspended for illegal betting.

Newcastle United signed Tonali, 23, from AC Milan ahead of this season for €70m plus bonuses.

The midfielder will be suspended for ten months and will then undergo a rehabilitation program of eight months.

"The FIGC prosecutor and Tonali have reached an agreement which I have already approved," said Gravina to Sky Sport Italia.

"The agreement is a suspension of ten months plus eight months of rehabilitation activities and at least 16 public appearances."

The suspension also means Tonali will miss Euros EC next summer, if Italy qualifies.
