Atletico Madrid coach Simeone: I leave Lazio happy with point

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was left satisfied with their 1-1 draw at Lazio.

Atletico were leading their Champions League opener until Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel struck a 95th minute equaliser for the hosts.

Simeone later said: “We played a good second half, we had clear goalscoring chances. We defended organised and with a lot of effort.

"I am left with a good feeling despite the goal in the last minute."

He added: "We are going to speak with the medical team but I imagine Barrios will be fine. Witsel requested a substitution due to a knock."

On his return to the Olimpico, the former Lazio midfielder added: “The fans are incredible, I felt so much emotion at the start of the game, but also just walking into the stadium. I have this affection that will never die. The banner was beautiful, it touched my heart.

“I always say, I'd love to rediscover the old sensations I had here, but as a coach. Now there is Sarri, who is a great coach, and I am having a long journey with Atletico."
