Like Felix, Felipe also arrived at Atletico this summer from Portugal.

"He is a very smart player, fast and undoubtedly one of the best in the world. From Benfica it was possible to see great potential, and now I hope he will be very successful at Atletico Madrid because it will be good for him and the whole team," Felipe told Globoesporte, who also spoke of his own move.

"It was a childhood dream that I had and, thank God, I'm fulfilling it. I worked to be in a great club in Brazil, to act in Europe, to reach the Brazilian team, I am a privileged one.

"To reach a level where I am in one of the biggest clubs in the world, who are always fighting for titles, is the biggest opportunity of my career. I have been able to learn and evolve a lot in recent years and I hope to achieve all my goals here."

Rodrigo was expected to end the week an Atleti player, but he remains with Los Che.

And Alemany explained, "I have perfect knowledge of everything that happens.

"There was the possibility that Rodrigo could be transferred. Valencia has a certain economic situation. Another thing is that I will not participate in the execution.

"Right now, there is no offer on the table for Rodrigo. I fully understand the decision to sell Rodrigo by the maximum shareholder. Who was offering, now no longer offering; and what seemed like an agreement could not be executed, I have nothing to do with it.

"He is available to train and, at his request, to play on Saturday against Real Sociedad."

Alemany added: "Rodrigo is a player of the first team. Our obligation is to be prepared to go to the market for an important player if Rodrigo leaves. The investment in a possible Rodrigo substitute will depend on the idea of the club owner (Peter Lim)."

Juanfran made the move to Sao Paulo this summer.

The fullback said, I have given my life for Atltico de Madrid, of course I find it strange to wear another shirt.

"Since I left, an even stronger bond has been created. I have not stopped receiving affection. It will be strange for me not to play with them.

"Everything good we have done will remain forever. That Atltico is what it is now was achieved by a few with a lot of work.

"We spend good times and bad times but you learn everything and it makes you better. Those two (Champions League) finals were tough, but everything we have won far exceeds it."

New stars for LaLiga fans all over the world to enjoy include Eden Hazard, Joao Felix and Nabil Fekir; all 20 LaLiga Santander teams have added to their squads thanks to extra financial strength and stability throughout Spanish football.

The summer's most fascinating transfer move was Barcelona's signing of Antoine Griezmann from title rivals Atletico de Madrid to partner captain Lionel Messi in attack, while the Camp Nou outfit also signed midfielder playmaker Frenkie de Jong from Ajax as they hunt a third straight LaLiga Santander title.

Second-placed last season, Atletico have had an exciting summer themselves, with their new Portuguese talent Joao Felix already looking like a future superstar. Diego Simeone has also rebuilt his defence, which now includes England international Kieran Trippier at right-back.

19 points off the top last season, Real Madrid have invested heavily during the close season, with Belgium international Hazard arriving as the Bernabeu's latest star attacker. Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane has already set regaining the LaLiga title as his primary objective for the new campaign.

It has been a busy summer up and down LaLiga Santander, as all 20 clubs know that standing still means falling behind. Valencia have kept their core of last year's Copa del Rey-winning squad, while also adding bullish centre-forward Maxi Gomez from RC Celta.

Former Spain national coach Julen Lopetegui is settling onto the Sevilla bench, building a new-look team from 12 summer signings. Getafe and Espanyol have added to squads which punched above their weight last season as they also prepare for Europa League action this autumn.

Although only four LaLiga clubs have new managers in charge for the new season, change has been happening up and down the division. Real Betis signing France's 2016 World Cup winner Fekir looks a real coup, as does Leganes bringing back Denmark international forward Martin Braithwaite.

Expectations are high at Real Sociedad for their two new Scandinavian starlets Martin Odegaard and Alexander Isak while, elsewhere in the Basque Country, there is real buzz around Athletic Club's homegrown winger Gaizka Larrazabal and Iaki Williams, who has just committed his long-term future to the club after signing a nine-year deal to stay at San Mames until 2028.

A theme of the summer has been players returning to LaLiga after time away: former RC Deportivo forward Lucas Perez has joined Alaves; ex-Real Madrid and Valencia defender Raul Albiol has signed for Villarreal, and one-time Bara and Malaga forward Sandro Ramirez will play on loan at R. Valladolid.

New boys Osasuna and Granada have brought in experience in 2013/14 LaLiga Santander winner with Atletico Adrian Lopez and former Valencia striker Roberto Soldado respectively, while Mallorca's veteran midfielder Salva Sevilla deserves another shot at the top level after masterminding back to back promotions.

Others coming 'home' are Japan international Takashi Inui, back at Eibar following spells at Real Betis and D. Alaves, and Galician Denis Suarez who has rejoined his hometown side RC Celta from Bara.

The reunions continue during Matchday One, when Bara coach Ernesto Valverde goes back to his old club Athletic Club in Bilbao, Atletico de Madrid face neighbours Getafe in the first Spanish capital derby of the season, and RC Celta welcome Real Madrid to Balaidos with both teams looking for better fortunes this season.

That's the magic of opening day football, with hope renewed through LaLiga Santander and supporters all over the world predicting success for their team over the next nine months.

There will be thrills and spills along the way for sure with joy for some and disappointment for others but all the dreams are alive ahead of the big kick off this weekend.

The 120m signing from Benfica has been a revelation in preseason.

And Oblak enthused, We're still in pre-season but it's clear that he's a huge talent. With talent like that he can grow to be a magnificent player. I'm sure that this is the right place for him. He's going to progress a lot under Diego Simeone and he'll learn a lot.

There's no doubt that he's a great talent and if he continues as he's started, if he trains hard and keeps playing at the level he's shown he'll be a world-class player, no doubt.

Despite losing mainstays like Antoine Griezmann (Barcelona), Lucas Hernandez (Bayern Munich) and Diego Godin (Inter Milan), there's a lot of excitement around Atleti's incoming signings, including Joao Felix and Kieran Trippier.

Oblak declared, A lot of new players have arrived and some players who did great things for the club over many years have left. Our new teammates have come in with a lot of enthusiasm and dreams of achieving great things here. All of us that are here, including the new guys, will do all we can to achieve our goals this season.

Obviously, we need time to get to know each other but the early signs are really good. They're players with a lot of quality, the quality you need to be here. They look really sharp and keen in training, really willing to learn, to see what the coach wants from them.

"That's the way to build a strong team, a solid team like we've always had. I'm sure we'll go far this season."

AS says Atletico and Valencia have agreed a fee for the Spain international. Atletico, however, must sell Angel Correa and Nikola Kalinic first to fund the deal.

Valencia are ready to sell Rodrigo for Atleti's offer of 55m plus 5m in bonuses.

Los Che were reluctant to sell their star striker, but the bid tabled was irresistible for president Peter Lim.

Rodrigo will undergo a medical today, though nothing will be signed until Atletico sell Correa and Kalinic.

"I believe that he can't escape this responsibility. It doesn't matter if he's 18, 20 or 25.

"What matters is his talent and the responsibility he has."

Atleti finished second in LaLiga Santander last season, 11 points behind Barcelona, and they are looking to close the gap this time around.

"Atletico Madrid's level of investment leaves them with responsibility to fight for the Champions League and LaLiga," Mourinho said.

"It's clear that Barcelona and Real Madrid have to be there because of their power, financial capability, culture and quality.

"Atletico in recent years have been without this responsibility, but the level of investment they've made is incredible.

"It's time to say, 'We're here, we're big, we want to be big and we are here to win,'" he concluded.
