Wenger insists Giroud 'sad' leaving Arsenal for Chelsea

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists Olivier Giroud was "sad" to leave for Chelsea.

He moved to Stamford Bridge where he is now fighting with Alvaro Morata for the sole striker spot that Antonio Conte likes to play.

But Giroud didn't want to leave the Emirates according to Wenger.

“Olivier is an Arsenal man as well," Wenger said.

“He left for similar reasons to Theo Walcott, by being sad to leave but also objective enough to analyse his situation.

“His professional career demanded that he moved, but his heart wanted him to stay.

“Both Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud are similar cases on that front."
