Leicester City U21s coach Ben Petty was left stunned by his side's 7-0 home humbling by Fulham on Monday night.
Even with senior centre-back Jannik Vestergaard at the heart of the defence, City's youngsters, impressive in recent outings, had a night to forget. Vestergaard did too, opening the scoring for Fulham's youngsters with an own goal, the Dane having turned down a move to Craven Cottage in the summer.
“We're pretty shellshocked," Petty told LCFC TV. “I definitely wasn't expecting that performance, especially after the two great away performances at Chelsea and Bradford.
“We just spoke to the players there about the highs and lows of football. We've had that in the space of six days. Winning at Bradford on penalties and a great performance and then serving up a dismal display tonight, if I'm honest, and finding it difficult against a very good Fulham side.
“We've got to take it on the chin. It's a massive disappointment but we'll recover well and go again. We'll be back in sync for Sheffield Wednesday next week I'm sure."
