Marcos Assuncao was in tears as he announced yesterday that he was leaving Real Betis.

The Brazilian midfielder was granted a free transfer by Betis and said: "I had my best years here and I leave with a heavy heart.

"I wanted to finish my career with Betis, but it wasn't to be. But I guarantee to you that when I retire, I will return to Seville to follow Betis as a fan."
