Rangers are weighing up signing Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram this month.
The Examiner says Lundstram's contract situation has been a talking point ever since the back-end of last season.
Lundstram, 26, was offered fresh terms last year but has refused to sign and is now in the final six months of his Bramall Lane deal.
Despite the Blades apparently putting a price tag of £4million on his head, it appears clubs are prepared to keep their powder dry and recruit the midfielder for nothing in the summer.
The Gers could approach the ex-Everton man this month with a view to signing him for free upon the expiry of his Blades' deal.
