Blackburn loanee George Hirst targets Leicester future

Blackburn Rovers loanee George Hirst feels he has a future at Leicester City.

The striker penned a two-year contract extension at the King Power Stadium this summer before leaving for Ewood Park. It's a season-long loan for the 23-year-old but includes an option for Rovers to buy him.

“Leicester came to me a few weeks ago and expressed that they wanted to extend my stay," Hirst told the Lancashire Telegraph after his Blackburn debut last weekend, a 3-2 defeat to Bristol City. “I ended up signing a two-year extension and I know there's an option in the deal with Blackburn and I think that's good for all parties.

“It's up to Blackburn really and myself and we'll sit down if it comes to that and make a decision. For me, it was nice to pen a new deal at Leicester, I don't feel my journey is 100 per cent done there.

“I've been into League One and scored goals, hopefully I can come into the Championship and score goals here this year and see what next year brings. I'm not really thinking about it too much in depth.

“It feels the natural next step for me. I went to Rotherham and had a difficult year, it was probably the wrong club at the wrong time in all honesty looking back, and I don't hold any grudges about that.

“I went to League One, showed I could score goals at that level and now it's about carrying that on and doing it again in the Championship. I've been fortunate that the gaffer (Jon Dahl Tomasson) and this club have given me the opportunity to do that and now I've got 39 games to go and repay that faith.

“It feels like I've got unfinished business in the Championship having not had such a good season a couple of years ago. I feel like now I'm a lot more prepared for that, a lot more ready and hopefully I can go and show that."
