Barcelona set to make improved bid for Liverpool’s Mascherano

Spanish giants Barcelona will need to make an improved offer if they want Liverpool’s Javier Mascherano.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson reportedly wants £18million by the end of this coming weekend for the Argentina captain so the Anfield club can recoup some of the money they paid West Ham for his services a few years ago.

Liverpool are resigned to the fact that Mascherano will leave the club but want more than the £16million Barcelona have already offered so they can do some late business in the transfer window.

Mascherano did not play in Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Monday night because he was ‘distracted’ by his transfer status.

In other Liverpool transfer news, the Reds are being linked with a move for PSV Eindhoven striker Ola Toivonen despite the Dutch club saying he is not for sale.
