German legend Lothar Matthaus claimed that youngster Dele Alli was the best player on the pitch in England's 3-2 win over Germany on Saturday.

Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson was made aware of the news and claimed that when a legend like Matthaus praises you, you are well advised to take it and run with it.

Hodgson said: "The TV people told me Lothar Matthaus said he was the best player on the pitch.

"That's some praise indeed.

"When Lothar Matthaus says you were the best on the pitch, then if I was a player I would take that."
