West Ham captain Rice: Victory at Aston Villa a massive relief

West Ham captain Declan Rice admitted "relief" after victory at Aston Villa.

Pablo Fornals struck for the visitors' 1-0 win - their first for the season.

Rice said, "Relief, massive relief. Like I said last week, the expectations of this club now are that we can't start a Premier League season losing three games.

"Especially with the squad that we have. You could sense it today, even in the warm-up, the way we were talking, we really wanted it today. We put our bodies on the line, ran more and we were more productive with the ball."

On switching formation in the second half, Rice added: "You always have to adapt in games and we can always flip between a four and five at the back.

"Five wasn't working in the first half but we switched it after half-time and got on the ball more to create more chances.

"We've missed so many chances this season and you start thinking 'when is this goal going to come?' but we could hear the fans erupt when we scored and there was relief at getting over the line.

"We know what we can achieve. It's down to us on the pitch. We played for the badge today. The fans haven't been happy recently and they've been right, but they can go home with a smile on their face today."
