Ron Vlaar insists he never asked for the Aston Villa captaincy.

Vlaar says he did not push to be made Aston Villa captain after ousting Darren Bent.

He said: "It wasn't something that was on my mind when I joined Villa.

"But I enjoy the responsibility of being captain. It's a great honour."
