The Seagulls fell to Matt Targett's last-minute strike, with the hosts prevailing 2-1, and the head coach stressed how proud he was of the players having seen his side play for a large part of the contest with ten men.

He said, It's tough to take because the players were amazing and gave me everything.

With 11 players we were really good and worthy of our lead the sending off affects the game and we played for nearly an hour with a man less, while still contributing to the match.

We still attacked often, so it's heartbreaking to lose with the last kick, but I'm really proud of the performance."

Despite being a man down, Potter's men created chances throughout the match in the Midlands, and the boss discussed the attacking style his side continued to maintain.

We still looked to win the game and the best way of hanging onto something is to continue to be yourselves," he continued.

We played through their defence numerous times and weren't camped inside our own half trying to defend.

We were positive and that's what makes it more difficult to take the reaction of the fans afterwards showed that they saw the quality and courage, but the game can be cruel."

But he added he was proud of their efforts and performance in a 2-1 reverse.

Mooy saw red when Albion led through an Adam Webster header and Jack Grealish then levelled in first-half added time.

Albion head coach Potter said: "It's a painful one, that is for sure. They gave everything and, when it happens in that manner, with the last kick, it is particularly heart-wrenching for the players.

In the context of the game, the sending-off has a big influence.

Until that, we were the better team, controlled the game and were deservedly 1-0 up.

Then the sending-off means the crowd get involved and Villa Park was lively today and got behind the team."

The Brazilian signed for the midlands club in the summer in a 22.5 million transfer from Club Brugge

"I had my first child when I was 14 years old," Wesley told Sky Sports. "It was difficult because it was during this time that I started to try and play football professionally.

"I had to work in the day and then go to training in the evening.

"I was 14 when I had my first kid, and 16 when I had my second. When I had my children, I told myself I had to do everything to be a football player."

Despite having two children to care for, Wesley went for broke when he was 17, embarking on a six-month trip to Spain for a trial with Atletico Madrid.

It proved unsuccessful, but Wesley hailed the experience as "amazing" before heading to France, and then eventually ending up back in Brazil working in a factory where reality began to hit.

"I had to get money for my kids. I would go to a team and every team said no," Wesley added, before revealing how he ended up with AC Trencin. "I went to six teams before going to Slovakia.

"When I went to the sixth team, I thought I didn't want to play football anymore. I thought it was finished for me. Then I got a chance."

McGinn is believed to be on a shortlist of players United want to sign over the next two transfer windows.

But Smith said: The big clubs can come calling but they'll get a short, swift reply! He's a player we want here at Aston Villa.

His value shot up from the moment he stepped out onto the Villa Park pitch and showed just what a player he is.

He has an unbelievable energy level and a big, big heart, but people don't see the technical side of it as well he's got that in abundance."

McGinn is contracted to Villa until July 2024, so the midlands club are under no pressure to sell.

Smith added: He's a really top player and pivotal to us getting promoted last season. He's continued that form in the Premier League and his value would have certainly shot up."

Indeed, the midfielder says he's happier in Boston than he was in Birmingham while with Aston Villa.

He told AS: "Above all I am from Valencia. It is very difficult to find such a good place to live. But in the United States I am delighted. Boston is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States.

"In that sense I am much better than England. There you live differently. Birmingham is a good city, but they have nothing to do with Boston. It's very cold here, but there are also a few months of heat in which you can go to the pool. That in England did not exist."

The Belgium international has been out of action since the end of August.

Potter said today: "Leo has been training with us this week.

"We need to be careful. He is probably not ready to start at the weekend, I think that's fair to say.

"But he is training with the group and we will make a decision this afternoon and tomorrow as to whether he is in the group.

"It is nice we have got numbers."

The defender was impressive in Bulgaria, dominated by the racist chanting of home fans.

Smith said, "Talking about his football first, extremely proud to see one of my players make his debut for England, assured performance, the biggest accolade I could give him was that it looked like he was playing for Aston Villa.

"He was organising people around him, was calm on the ball, the sort of performance we see regularly.

"Didn't get tested defensively but played his part in a good result for England."

He continued, "He's come back here and trained, got on with things as normal and not really said too much about it. I can only sing his praises.

"When we go and look at players and speak to them we know what they're going to bring football-wise, but it's that personality, character that you're looking to find out about.

"Me and JT went to meet him and he impressed us. Having met him, brought him here on loan and signed him we've seen him every day and it doesn't surprise me how he handled the whole situation.

"He's articulate, intelligent and a very good human being as well."

The seventh-placed Clarets face a tough test at the King Power on Saturday against Brendan Rodgers' Foxes, who are fourth on the table.

"If anyone is going to give it a good go and break into the so-called big four, Leicester look like they are the ones," Westwood told the club's website.

"It's a long season though and they've started well, but so have we and hopefully it's a good game."

He added: "I don't think you can ever look past the next game in this league. The Premier League is so tough and it's always a battle, but at the moment we are looking up.

"We don't want to be looking down, but as I say it's a long old season and if we stay in the Premier League, that's a big achievement again for this football club."

When the player left to join Villa, there was a clause that included a payment after his first international appearance.

Mings made his debut for England in the 6-0 win in Bulgaria this week.

And the Telegraph says that it means Bournemouth will get an extra 250,000 from their Premier League rivals.

The payments will continue if Mings plays three more games for England, as the clause stipulated 250,000 for each of his first four international appearances.

Mings struggled for game time at Bournemouth, but has turned around his career since joining Villa.

The Telegraph says are set to receive 250,000 from Villa as a result of Tyrone Mings making his England debut last night.

Mings made a permanent switch to the Villans in the summer, in a deal the Daily Echo says could reach 26.5million.

That includes an initial payment as well as performance-related add-ons.

The first of those instalments is now due after Mings played in England's 6-0 win over Bulgaria in Sofia.
