Villa's Lowry would prefer loan return to Plymouth

Shane Lowry is waiting for Aston Villa to decide whether he can rejoin Plymouth on loan. The defender's three-month loan at Home Park expired on Saturday but he is wanted back in the New Year.

New Pilgrims boss Paul Mariner is hoping to re-sign the 20-year-old on loan and is set to hold talks with Villa regarding a deal.

"I don't have a clue, to be honest," Lowry told the Herald.

"I don't think it's any secret Plymouth would like to extend my loan. I have had a word with the gaffer and he wants me to stay.

"I put my views across to him as well but, at the end of the day, it's between Plymouth and Villa. It's not down to me.

"I don't make these decisions. But I would like to go out on loan again and play more games.

"Villa are fourth in the Premier League at the moment so I have got to be realistic. I'm not going to be playing for them.

"Getting games with Plymouth has done me the world of good."
