Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo has undergone successful knee surgery.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury during his team's 1-0 home defeat to Atletico Madrid on April 29.

A statement from Villarreal read: "Sergio Asenjo underwent a successful reconstruction of his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee at a clinic in Madrid.

"Villarreal wants to express its full support to the player and wish him a speedy recovery."
