Villarreal coach Setien praises Trigueros, Pascual after Anderlecht draw

Villarreal coach Quique Setien was satisfied with their 1-1 draw at Europa Conference League opponents Anderlecht.

Setien says the round of 16 tie is now wide open.

He stated: “It is true that we have had the game quite controlled and good phases and those 15 or 20 minutes that it has cost us we have become unbalanced and weakened a bit. We have given a lot of space and, as a consequence, problems appear. But we have recovered with the departure of some players and we have had a good end to the game. I am quite satisfied with the result because we knew that it was not easy. The tie is open, but now we're playing at home.

“There are always things to improve. The reality is that all matches are complicated and, at this point, nobody is going to give you anything. You have to get it right and in many phases of the game we have done it, but then there are decisive things that affect the result. We scored a great goal and we controlled the game, although there was no lack of efficiency in the final passes and shots."

On goalscorer Manu Trigueros and Jorge Pascual, Setien added: “I value Manu's great knowledge of football. He understands the game and is an extraordinary player. He played a very good game, but I understood that he was already a little tired and that's where the changes came from, as well as the need to recover players.

"In the case of Jorge Pascual, we already saw him in Turkey and he has been training with us for a few weeks. He has helped us a lot. We needed that help and it seemed to me that he has had personality and has held the balls that he could, although we have not generated so much to see him on occasion. We are happy with his progression."
