UNCOVERED: Argentina and Holland bust-up; Messi and Van Dijk involved

New information about Argentina captain Lionel Messi's argument with Netherlands hero Wout Weghorst has emerged.

The two were involved in what appeared to be a long-standing argument during their recent World Cup knockout stage clash.

The South Americans dumped the Dutch out of the competition in the quarter finals recently.

The game was ill-tempered, with Argentina prevailing on penalties after a 2-2 score.

“What are you looking at, silly? Go over there," Messi seems to have told Weghorst at one stage, after the final whistle.

Argentine outlet Ole has spoken to the journalist who was conducting the interview when Messi made those comments.

He stated the two were arguing extensively.

"After the game, they were all bickering in the locker room, not just Messi," Esteban Edul, the interviewer, said.

“[Virgil] Van Dijk was falling out with [Nicolas] Otamendi. It looked like a Lanus-Banfield or a Newel's-Central, but it had more mouth because they were world stars.

“Most of Messi's anger was about the penalty shoot-out, when the Dutch bothered the Argentines. The 19 [Weghorst] was waiting in the tunnel."
