QPR forward Charlie Austin has said that Tottenham's Harry Kane rightly deserved his England chance before he did.
Austin has been long-linked with an England call-up due to his amazing goal scoring form for the R's this season but young gun Kane got the nod ahead of him for Friday's 4-0 Euro2016 qualifying win over Lithuania and Tuesday's friendly with Italy.
He said: "If you look at the strikers, three picked themselves in Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck. If you don't pick Harry Kane in the form he's in - he has been incredible....so I didn't expect to be picked.
"I was actually very pleased he scored [against Lithuania] and rightly so because he has been on fire this season. It's great for him to carry on the way he has done, get his debut and score. I was really pleased for him.
"It's every kid's dream to be a footballer and if you can make the step into international football, even better. That's what's I'm trying to do. Hopefully I can get there."
25-year old Austin has scored 15 league goals in 27 appearances for the struggling R's this term to be the second-highest Englishman on the scoring charts behind Kane who has 19 for Spurs.
