Tottenham target Berahino not leaving West Brom anytime soon

West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine has made it quite clear that the club has no interest in selling Saido Berahino.

The 21-year old Burundi-born striker is emerging as a target for a number of bigger Premier League clubs with reports suggesting that Tottenham have already enquired about his availability.

Berahino has started the 2014/15 season in fine fashion with five goals for the Baggies which has prompted the interest but Irvine insists the young gun is going nowhere.

"I don't think we are anywhere near that at this particular moment," Irvine said of a potential sale.

"I think somebody has written a story because he was a handful against Tottenham and if he is a handful against Man United (on Monday night) they will probably write that story as well. Before you know it, it will be that there is a bid about to come in.

"If I was working at any of the top Premier League clubs I would probably be saying 'We better have a look and see what this young lad is doing at West Brom because he seems to be scoring a load of goals'.

"It certainly doesn't mean we need to sell."

Irvine also suggested that the money quoted for the potential sale of Berahino, who has 10 goals in 12 England U21 appearances, is nowhere near the clubs valuation of Baggies academy product.

"I would be absolutely astonished if anyone could sign Saido from us for £15m," he added.

"But £15m doesn't sound like a lot of money for a talented, young English player with great potential who is playing really, really well in the Premier League and who is scoring goals. It would have to be higher than that.

"Right now Saido's value to this club is going up in every way, financially but obviously as a player on the pitch.

"I wouldn't want to lose him but at the same time if he keeps on making the progress he is making then we will probably lose him one day."
