Eric Dier signed a new contract with Tottenham on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old has put pen to an extension which will see him remain at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2020.
The versatile Dier, who can play in defence or midfield, joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon last summer and has now committed himself to a lengthy stay in North London.
Of the England U21 international, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino told the club's official website: “He has played well in midfield and was comfortable in that position.
“Eric's skill is he can play in different positions in the pitch.
“Eric started last season as a full back and scored in the first two games.
“He can also play at centre back, and it is good for him because he is young and he improves a lot.
“When you play in different positions you add to your game and so gain better tools to be a better player."
