Tottenham boss Postecoglou full of admiration for Hodgson

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is a major admirer of his opposite number at Crystal Palace.

The Australian head coach, who previously worked at Celtic in Scotland, is preparing to take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Friday.

While Postecoglou is hoping his side can get all three points, he could not resist admiring their boss Roy Hodgson and praising his longevity in the game.

He told reporters: “England Australia, 2016 - I coached against Roy up in Sunderland so I have had the pleasure of coaching him at international level. He is an outstanding manager, he's an absolute gentleman and whenever I have come across him people always talk about the kind of person he is and I love his career, for someone like me with a different journey I have so much admiration for the career he has had.

“Because for all of us we start off with this decision to become a manager and you talk about what is the main thing you want and that is we hopefully do it for a long time because we love it, we know the job has a precarious nature to it. You hang on to the fact that hopefully you have some success that prolongs your career.

“But beyond that what I love about what I do is the experiences you gain along the way and I look at Roy and I just think he has had the richest of careers. He's coached here, coached abroad, coached big clubs, small clubs, fought for honours. He 's fought against relegation. He's coached in different countries and whenever he does decide to quit, which probably won't be for a while the way he's going, he can look back at such a rich career that I think means more than just having success or earning a lot of money or fame.

He probably speaks five or six languages, he can probably go to multiple clubs and be welcomed with open arms. Just massive admiration and my career hopefully when I get to the end of it I can have a fraction of the experiences I had."
