Tottenham boss Mourinho to add King to coaching staff

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is set to add Ledley King to his coaching staff.

Mourinho confirmed on Friday that his assistant and tactical analyst, Ricardo Formosinho, is leaving the club to pursue a career as a head coach and revealed he would be replaced by someone "connected with the club".

The London Evening Standard says King is understood to have agreed to join Mourinho's backroom team, having impressed the Spurs manager while working with the defensive players since the suspension of football in March. It is understood that King's role isn't specifically a coaching role.

The 39-year-old former Spurs captain retired in 2012 and was named a club ambassador.

He has previously coached Spurs' U-18s part-time and continued to be involved in the academy set-up as a coach and mentor.
