Swansea's Monk puzzled at Chico red card

Swansea City boss Garry Monk was left to ponder his side's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

The Swans conceded to Demba Ba in the 68th minute at the Liberty Stadium after losing Chico Flores to two yellow cards after the first quarter of an hour.

The Spanish defender was booked for bringing down Willian in the 14th minute before referee Phil Dowd eventually decided to send him off for a tackle on Andre Schurrle two minutes later and the manner of which the sending off came about was perplexing to Monk.

"That's the most disappointing thing for me," Monk told Sky Sports.

"He clearly said no, but I think he said he was biding his time.

"All you can see is their bench and manager in the fourth official's ear, then all of a sudden, our player is sent off where it looked like he wasn't going to do anything about it.

"That's the only question I have about it, but I'm sure he's got a legitimate answer."

Monk added: "By the letter of the law, I guess it's a red card, but if you go by the letter of the law every week, you'll have seven or eight players sent off every game.

"It's one of them, but what can you do, you can't complain."
