Sunderland boss Roy Keane is convinced they are capable of challenging the top four.
"But we have to be realistic. The day when Sunderland can compete for a Champions League place is a long, long way away yet.
"But is it possible? Of course it is.
"Other teams have tried to bridge that gap - Tottenham nearly did it a while ago and Everton came close this season.
"But you can't underestimate just how strong these top four sides are - and if you think they're not going to strengthen again this summer, you're living in cloud cuckoo land.
"Manchester United won the league last season and yet spent £50 million on three new players even before the season ended."
