Sunderland boss Gus Poyet rates Jermain Defoe the best signing of the January market.
Tomorrow's opponents Swansea lost star player Wilfried Bony to Manchester City and failed to bring in a replacement.
Poyet said: "Jermain can give us something special. A lot of teams wanted Jermain but we got him, so that has a double impact. Not only did a lot of teams not get him, but we did.
"It was a very important piece of business. That kind of situation won't happen too often, so we needed to make the most of it and I am really pleased that we did."
And, on Bony's £28m sale, he added: "It's funny, because if you get a £20m-plus offer for a player then people will say, 'take it'.
"But then you lose a player and for less money you have to find someone who can do what they were doing. It's a tricky situation and I'm sure Garry (Monk) feels like that. You can't say no, but now, what is left?"
