SOUTHAMPTON v WEST BROM RECAP: Ward-Prowse at the double as Saints ease past Baggies

Southampton recorded a convincing 3-0 win over Norwich City at St Mary's on the weekend.

James Ward-Prowse netted a double for then Saints who made it three home victories on the trot with a strong performance on the south coast.

The promising midfielder opened the scoring with a well-taken free-kick in the fifth minute before converting from the penalty spot 30 minutes later after fellow academy graduate Matt Targett was hauled down in the area by Craig Dawson.

Dusan Tadic came off the bench to score the sealer for the second match in a row with a sublime finish from an angle to send Ronald Koeman's Saints up to 10th.

For Tony Pulis' Albion it was a first loss in four outings which saw them remain 13th.

TALKING POINTS

- Southampton have strung a few dominant performances together, particularly at home. Are they now back to being the team they were last season?

- A poor display amidst some promising performances for West Brom. Is this merely a minor blip?

WHAT'S NEXT?

Southampton will be looking to make it three wins on end when they travel to Manchester United on the weekend as West Brom get set to meet Bristol City in the FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday night prior to the weekend's crunch West Midlands derby with bottom-placed Aston Villa.

QUOTES CORNER

Southampton's Koeman on the ease of the victory:

"It was a comfortable win. We know how difficult is to beat West Brom. It's a very good result.

"We had total control of the game, they didn't create many chances and we had chances to score more. It was a very good team performance."

West Brom boss Pulis on his side's subpar showing:

"The lads looked tired, and we've done well away from home this season. But just after Christmas, two away games is very difficult. Why not have one away and then one at home?

"But take nothing away from Southampton. It was a bad day at the office for us, but we'll dust ourselves down and move on."
