With England manager Gareth Southgate in attendance, the former Coventry forward struck his fourth goal in three Premier League fixtures.

He notched a double against Everton in a 3-1 victory for Cherries at Vitality Stadium last weekend, while also scoring in a 3-1 loss at Leicester.

It was a slow start from me. I always like to get off the mark early on in the season," said Wilson told the Daily Echo.

It took me three or four games to get going but now I am up and running. I am working hard. As always, there is no rest now. This is where the hard work starts to keep maintaining that form."

Hudson-Odoi bagged a goal as he and Reece James stepped up their returns from injury for Chelsea U23s against their young Southampton counterparts on Saturday afternoon at St Mary's.

The 18-year-old England international faced five months on the sidelines after rupturing his Achilles tendon against Burnley back in April but has edged ever closer to a first-team return - having come through the last two Chelsea Under-23 matches unscathed.

Billy Gilmour, who has also featured for the Blues' first-team in the Premier League, threaded Hudson-Odoi through with a lovely pass in the 58th minute. He did the rest, clipping a delightful finish over the helpless Saints 'keeper Harry Lewis.

James, who had a successful loan spell in the Championship with Wigan last term, is another Chelsea academy product looking to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori in breaking through to the Blues first-team this season under Frank Lampard.

The England under-21 international produced a stellar performance to help Cherries deliver their first ever win in an away fixture against Southampton.

Howe told the Daily Echo: He did really well. He was hugely impressive.

His distribution was good, he was brave, which we want him to be and he made a couple of really good saves in that second half.

He is growing all the time. He has adapted very well to Premier League life."

The Norwegian striker has played on the left wing for Eddie Howe's men in 3-1 victories over Southampton and Everton during the past two games.

Speaking on Sky Sports, King said: Obviously I'm a centre-forward but I'm a team player.

I grew up at United playing 4-3-3 in the ressies and at Blackburn I played out wide as well.

Coming here, I have had a few seasons up front and a few seasons at number 10.

When the manager asks me to play out wide, I do a job, anything for the team but it is harder."

Goals from Nathan Ake, Harry Wilson and Callum Wilson helped earn the Dorset club an historic 3-1 success at St Mary's, as Howe and his staff etched their names in club folklore.

Howe told the Daily Echo: I just want to thank the fans for everything they have given the club. Not just today but historically.

It was a really nice moment (after the final whistle) to share with them, you could feel the emotion from us to them and them to us.

That's where you have to just think back to what times were and understand this was a precious moment. We very much enjoyed it and thank them."

Victory put Cherries up to third in the Premier League table, with 10 points recorded from their opening six games.

Howe added: It was a really nice moment for our supporters to enjoy and for us all to enjoy together.

"When you consider how far this club has come in recent years and how bleak the outlook was at times."

Two first-half goals left Saints with it all to do after the interval and despite James Ward-Prowse's penalty in an improved second-half display, it was not enough and Callum Wilson sealed things in stoppage time.

Attentions now turn to the south coast derby on Tuesday night at Portsmouth, something which Romeu is relishing.

We have a massive one now ahead and we're all very excited about that game to get back to winning feelings and sensations and to start building something good again.

There has to be a reaction surely now. We want to prove that we're not a team that loses and does nothing about it.

We know how important it is, we know how tough it will be also over there but we players like those matches and we're ready for it.

We want to get that very important win for us, for the fans and also for the club."

Nathan Ake and Harry Wilson scored first-half goals with Callum Wilson clinching the win late on after James Ward-Prowse gave the Saints hope.

The first half was too bad to get a point," said Hasenhttl.

We lost this game in the first half. We haven't showed a few of the qualities we showed in the last games.

The second half was completely different. We really tried to stress them, we won nearly every second ball and 26 shots on goal in 90 minutes is also not so bad, but these stats are not so interesting.

What's interesting is the goals, but we couldn't score more today, so it was not the result we wanted."

The Saints boss continued: We knew it would be a difficult game today and we knew Bournemouth are strong in counter-attacks.

They didn't have that many chances, but for the first one from the corner, we lost one duel in the centre and it's a goal.

We invested a lot. I think everybody saw that we tried until the last minute to turn the table, but in the end we didn't. We have to keep our heads up and move forward."

Nathan Ake and Wilson scored first-half goals with Callum Wilson clinching the win late on after James Ward-Prowse gave the Saints hope.

"It was probably the easiest goal I will score," said Wilson. "A gift. But that's what you get for being patient. We weren't at our best, the final pass was poor.

"We are starting to be more consistent. We would probably have drawn that 2-2 in previous seasons. The defence was resilient and we got our rewards at the end.

"In periods we were good. Devastating at times. But we were also sloppy too. We are making more history with the boys and progress with the team."

Eddie Howe's side produced a superb first-half display to establish a two-goal lead as Nathan Ake headed in Diego Rico's corner in the 10th minute and Harry Wilson's sweeping finish from Phillip Billing's pass crowned a superb move.

The Cherries also had a goal from Joshua King ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee as they were in complete control for the first 45 minutes.

Southampton snatched at a lifeline when James Ward-Prowse scored from the spot eight minutes after the break following Steve Cook's clumsy challenge on Che Adams.

"You want the players brought down to earth because you want the focus on consistent success," Howe said.

"We needed to show our heart to see the game out."

On moving into the top four before the rest of the weekend's games, he said: "That's a very nice feeling at this early stage but that's all it is.

"It was a nice moment. We rarely get those moments in football where you get that pure emotion and joy for a few seconds. Then you start thinking about next week."

The Mali international has scored two stunning goals for Saints this season following his switch from Standard Liege.

"Nathan could train this week with the team. This is a good message how far he is and if he really can play tomorrow I haven't decided so far but it's good he's back because Moussa is out. He cannot play," said Hasenhuttl.

"After a few sessions this week he felt a little bit more his muscles so we don't want to take this risk so we leave him out tomorrow.

"I don't know if I can grab Nathan for the position. I haven't decided so far."
