Southampton striker Pelle: De Gea was pulling off miracles

Southampton striker Graziano Pelle was delighted with Italy's impressive win over Spain.

Pellè joked with Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea for a “miracle" that meant he had to wait until stoppages to score against Spain.

“Once again we showed we had heart, determination and a lot more besides," the Southampton striker told Rai Sport.

“This team is not just attack, defence or midfield. We are a united group and this is fundamental. We knew that we had to work hard, there was a lot of support for this performance in training and these are the sacrifices that took us to a deserved victory."

Just as against Belgium, Pellè secured a 2-0 result on the counter with a volley in injury time.

“Scoring at the end feels great, but I had also tried in the first half and De Gea performed a miracle. He's done that to me before in the Premier League too, so I reminded him and we had a laugh.

“This is my first major tournament and the affection of the fans when we arrive at the stadium is marvellous. We are distant, but close, so I thank the Italy supporters all over the world.

“You might not see it, but we realise they are there. We talk about it in the locker room and know how close the supporters have been to us. Thank you all."
