Southampton signing Ings thanks Liverpool: I wouldn't be here without them

Danny Ings has admitted that he will always have admiration and love for his old club Liverpool.

Ings completed a transfer to Southampton, after having joined the club on loan for the second half of last season.

The attacker struggled at Liverpool since moving there three years ago, but he has nothing but good things to say about the club.

Speaking with talkSPORT, Ings said: "Joining Liverpool was a massive move for me, I felt like everything was going to plan.

"Obviously things didn't work out up there, but I had three amazing years and I'm extremely grateful for the time Liverpool had for me and their work behind the scene to get me back fit and get me in this shape now.

"I love the club. I wish them all the best in the future.

"For any player who suffers back-to-back knee injures, it's very difficult to come back from, but I had the right support around me and the right team with my rehab up at Liverpool.

"Things off the pitch after I got those injuries became pretty difficult at that time… the second knee injury I had definitely felt like the end.

"I worked so hard with the first one. I was back training with the lads after four months, it was really intense rehab, I was just so eager to get back fit.

"Then to do my other knee in my first game back under the lights at Anfield, I thought it was going to be very, very difficult to bounce back from. But I had surgery and I worked extremely hard to get myself if the best shape that I possibly could.

"I could see the light at the end of the tunnel, and here I am today. I'm in great shape, I've looked after myself over the summer and I feel extremely confident in my body now, so I just can't wait to get started down here."
