Southampton's Schneiderlin drops England hint

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has made the clearest indication yet that he could one day pledge his allegiance to England.

The 24-year old was born in France but moved from Strasbourg to the Saints in 2008 and is reportedly eligible to switch his loyalty to the Three Lions.

After scoring in Southampton's 4-2 win over Norwich City on Saturday, former France youth international Schneiderlin admitted he had missed his Les Bleus calling but could still become an England player one day down the track.

"That's life," said Schneiderlin of his missed France opportunity.

"I left France very young and maybe because I played in the second division they lost me a bit and prefer other players who play in France.

"That's not up to me, it's people's tastes. I just do my best."

Of a possible England call-up, he added: "Never say never. Some people tell me I am [eligible], yes, so I think I am.

"Don't give me any time limit, I'll just see. Of course it's frustrating but I just need to keep focused and finish as high as possible and then we'll see after the World Cup."
