Southampton defender Yoshida: We must do a lot better

Southampton defender Maya Yoshida believed they made it too easy for Chelsea for Sunday's 3-0 defeat.

Yoshida made his first start of the season on a difficult afternoon for Southampton at St Mary's.

“One mistake and they killed us. But we still had many chances to score," Yoshida said.

“Their second goal was from a set-piece which made it really difficult for us to come back. Chelsea are a really good team with good shape.

“Football is about scoring and we had chances to do that today. Danny [Ings] has scored a lot of goals recently to help the team but it just didn't happen today.

“Everyone needs to take responsibility, we have to play much much better. We need to get back on track quickly.

“Everyone has to be ready for our next game against Bournemouth. It's about mentality.

“We've only got five points and that's clearly not enough. The next game after the international break, we must get three points.

“Maybe it'll be a good thing to have this two-week break and refresh. Recharge the energy.

“First appearance for myself, it's a first step this season and I'll keep working hard to get more opportunities to play."
