Southampton boss Selles urges players to ignore table

Southampton boss Ruben Selles has insisted that it's not appropriate for his players to constantly look at the league table.

The Saints are at the very bottom of the Premier League at present.

With time running out to go on a winning run, Selles believes they should only be focusing on getting three points in upcoming matches.

He stated, per the Daily Echo: "Absolutely. When we say that we don't look at the table what we mean is that we don't expend energy to say 'this team has been winning' and if they don't win because then we are just looking at what the others do but we actually cannot affect that.

"What we need to do is we need to perform and then we need to win football matches and put our energy into that because if we don't win football matches then it doesn't matter what the gap is, we will never move.

"That's what I mean when I say we are not looking at the table. Our full focus is on our performance and on the results. And then if we don't win matches then doesn't it matter what happened in the other games.

"We keep fighting and we keep going for every game and that's been there from the very beginning and then now it's our task just to wake up tomorrow and then go for more, go for it and then be ready for the next game on and compete and be the very best."
