Southampton boss Selles convinced by potential of FAYC semifinalists

Southampton boss Ruben Selles has told their FA Youth Cup semifinalists to prepare for next season.

Saints were beaten by West Ham 6-1 at London Stadium this week.

"I think they have been doing really well, playing an amazing season in the FA Youth Cup," Selles said.

“We were supporting them a couple of rounds back at St. Mary's and it's very important that the academy is not only winning, but it's also developing good players.

“It's very important for us to create the pathway for them to arrive. So we have Kami (Kamari Doyle), Dom (Ballard) and Sam (Amo-Ameyaw) in the door to train with us some of the time."

The Spaniard added: “Hopefully they will do it more often, more often and more often. And then the boys in the under-18s follow with good performances.

“It's very important for us to have players in the club that are coming from the under-18s, from the B team. They feel they know the club and they are desperate to play in a Premier League team."
