South Africa World Cup chiefs are pleading with Fabio Capello to select LA Galaxy star David Beckham in his England squad.

South African FA chief executive Danny Jordaan insists big hitters like England make the tournament.

He said: "A few years ago Beckham met Nelson Mandela and there was a lot of excitement here.

"I'm really looking forward to him having a swansong."

Jordaan is confident the fans will be safe in South Africa.

He added: "Speak to the fans who follow the cricket or rugby teams. It will be safe here."
