Son form continues as Tottenham survive scare against Shkendija

Tottenham Hotspur have survived a scare against Shkendija to advance to the Europa League play-off round.

Heung-Min Son set-up Erik Lamela to score the opener after just five minutes.

The home side were back in it after half-time when Valmir Nafiu beat Joe Hart, who was making his debut, with a stunning 20-yard volley.

But Son continued his recent goalscoring form by restoring Spurs' lead before assisting Harry Kane to put the game to bed.

Asked about the win, manager Jose Mourinho said: "We didn't play magnificently but we did the job.

"In the first half we were 41 minutes without scoring and then we gave them space to play. In the second half, after our changes, and I like to see players come in and make an impact and the players who came on made a difference.

"We started very strongly and the thought was that we would kill the game but we didn't. They gave us a difficult match and the fear we felt after the equaliser was fundamental to the team's reaction and then it was difficult for them to contain our attacking waves."

The north London outfit will face Maccabi Heifa next Thursday, with the winner booking a place in the Europa League group stage.
