Salernitana have sacked coach Davide Nicola.

Yesterday's 8-2 defeat to Atalanta was too much for the Salernitana board, which acted this morning.

Nicola was Salernitana's hero last season, guiding them to an amazing season finish and Serie A safety.

The Serie A minnows announced: "US Salernitana 1919 announces that it has relieved Mr. Davide Nicola of his role as coach of the First Team.

"The Company thanks the coach for the passion and dedication to work shown, for his the historic goal of salvation in Serie A and wishes him the best professional fortunes for the continuation of his career."
